It has been a week!

It has been a week since Adventure Dad left…and we are doing better than I expected!

On Sunday, Mother’s Day, and Adventure Dad’ last night home, we had our first no-baby date night. We ate Thai food and had a wonderful time talking to each other about anything and everything. I sure do love that guy and am so glad that we are married. I can’t imagine living my life with anyone else!

On Monday we dropped him off at the boat, went to a COMPASS meeting, lunch at Sonia’s then dinner at Julie’s. By the time the princess and I were home it was time to get ready and go to bed. I think it was a great way to start the patrol - no sitting home alone feeling sorry for ourselves.

This week I’ve walked a bunch, invited friends over for meals and generally done great. This weekend we went to Seattle where Papaya and I stayed at Auntie Beth & Uncle Rick’s place. I learned that she NEEDS a swing of some sort at all times, and that the Boppy pillow is golden - so I’m going to have one sent to Hawaii for while we are there.

We leave for Hawaii on 24 May and will be there enjoying time with all the family. I hope Papaya likes it, because I am going to LOVE it!

Saturdays are for staying home, I should have known.

I got up early this morning, happy to have Adventure Dad home for the night. He slept in with Papaya while I got a much needed shower, something I never knew I could cherish so much until I was a new mother! We got Papaya packed up and ready to go off with me to work at the Dolphin Dash this morning but she was not in the mood. You could never have known from her great mood and smile but in her diaper she was waging a war against being taken anywhere. Each time she was put in her car seat she FILLED up her diaper - three times in a row! By the time I made it to Dolphin Dash I was running late and had no breakfast, she was crying and hungry and I was cranky. I fed her a snack in the gym, dropped off the water bottles and took my leave. There was NO WAY that my presence would make any positive difference at the event.

On the way home I picked up breakfast for the both of us and started to feel better as soon as I ate. Note to self: eating dinner at 6:30 p.m. then breastfeeding all night long to a growth-spurt baby means DON’T skip breakfast, or even wait until 9 a.m. to eat. Adventure Dad gave me time for a much needed one hour hap before her next feeding and by the time I was feeding her again at 10:30 a.m. I was feeling much better. Adventure Dad packed his bags to take to the boat, had lunch with me and then said goodbye for the day - he should be home around lunchtime tomorrow. God I love refit (sarcasm).

I’m noticing that I’m getting lonely and eating lately. Now that I notice I’ve got to stop eating out of boredom and lonliness - get out and go for a walk instead! I don’t want to re-gain all that pregnancy weight on this patrol, I want to get in better shape and loose the last five pounds! Tonight Amy Hamer is coming for dinner and to work with me on the calendar for the guys - I’m making Garlic & Balsalmic Chicken with a Tomato&Basil Pasta. YUM!

I hope my love makes it home for dinner…

He had to stay on the boat working overnight last night. But tonight I’m making a great dinner and I hope he’ll make it!

Grilled Chicken Breasts that were marinated in 1/2 cup Dijon Mustard and 2 Tbs. fresh Thyme

Then some Creamy Buttermilk Cole Slaw
1 head of cabbage shredded, 1 carrot grated, 1/2 cup buttermilk, 2 Tbs. Mayo, 2 Tbs. sour cream, 1 minced shallot, 2 Tbs. fresh parsley, 1/2 tsp. cider vinegar, 1/2 tsp. sugar, 1/4 tsp. Dijon mustard and 1/8 tsp. pepper.
Salt and wilt the cabbage (I do the full 4 hours), then rinse & dry. Then I add it to a bowl with all the above stuff in, mix and chill for 30 minutes to get the flavors together.
It is a Cooks Illustrated recipe of course:)

Papaya did well last night, a bit of sleep helped as well as some baby Tylenol for teething. She’s got two beautiful bottom middle teeth coming in which only seem to bother her at night when the world is quiet and she can FEEL the pain.

Today she is a sweet milkface princess taking a morning nap as I work on the computer & Dolphin Dash stuff for tomorrow.

Sleeping…or lack thereof

Falling asleep seems to be an issue for Miss Papaya these days. No matter if nursing or not, tired or cranky she CRIES herself to sleep. If she falls asleep nursing and then wakes up 10 minutes later to discover the boob has been carefully removed and put away she cries for 30 minutes. If she finishes off a boob and I take it away, ready to rock her to sleep since she is obviously tired, she ends up crying for 45+ minutes. I feel awful for her but there is nothing wrong; she may sense Adventure Dad’ impending deployment or be teething but I can’t find anything physically wrong. I check her teeth, temperature, diaper, clothes and keep her in a dimly lit room while calmy walking and rocking her - it gets me NOTHING.

Suggestions appreciated.

In other news I made a great dinner last night - Pasta with Garlic, Asparagus, Proscuitto, Smoked Mozzerella and Basil. Adventure Dad was very impressed. I also made my favorite ice cream - cheesecake ice cream with fresh raspberries & sliced almonds. Mmmmm, had to ask Adventure Dad to put it away before I ate it all!

Tonight I am going out for a girls night out to Baci Bistro in Silverdale. Everyone else’s husbands are watching kids but I think with refit Adventure Dad won’t be home in time so Papaya will join us. Here is to hoping she won’t cry too much like she did the other night at the Beach House in Purdy.

Tomorrow I’m making Dijon & Thyme marinated Grilled Chicken Breasts with Creamy Buttermilk Cole Slaw. It is a good one since the Cole Slaw is cold so can last as long as it takes for Adventure Dad to come home…I can grill my chicken breast when I’m ready to eat and his when he gets home. In other Adventure Dad news I put 400+ pictures on his iPhoto today so he’ll have them underway. Also downloaded the newest Papaya videos into his iPhoto, which unlike my older version, downloads .mpgs right into the iPhoto which is GREAT! I can’t wait to upgrade to my PowerBook with DVD Burner so I can make DVDs to send for Christmas of Papaya’s first year…

Great but tiring weekend

Ahhh…Jessica & Jason’s visit went great. We picked them up on Friday night and stopped at Outback on the way home to feed them & Miss Papaya. On Saturday they got a Submarine tour then we hopped on a ferry to Pike Place Market then David’s 30th Birthday Party. Sunday we went out to breakfast, walked around Poulsbo & upgraded Jessica’s & my phones to new Motorola v710 Camera Phones from Verizon. I love my new Bluetooth wireless headset so I can talk and have no wires and my hands free!

Jessica and Jason loved Papaya and seemed to have a great time. For once, Adventure Dad got along with the boyfriend of one of my friends and that was great! Adventure Dad worked a half day Sunday but other than that he was home for the weekend which was great since he stayed on the boat Monday night. Papaya also started sleeping in the cradle that Tutu & Grandpa Robinson built so Adventure Dad and I had the bed to ourselves! I forgot how much I love cuddling with him as I fall asleep, I’m going to miss that when he goes to sea.

So now Papaya is head first into her growth spurt! She sleeps at night with her regular schedule - down at 8, up to eat at 10, 2, 6 and 8 again. But then she sleeps A LOT during the day as well. Lets hope she hurries up and grows so we can go back to sleeping through the night and playing with Mom during the day. Her next Dr. Appointment is in two weeks and I’m excited to see how much she has grown by then!

Today I am off to get a new sticker for my car, fax Adventure Dad Mac OS update (yay Tiger!) and hang with Papaya until Adventure Dad comes home for dinner…hmmm, what to make?
