Madonna says the low is “knowing you were not there for your kid that day, you suck as a parent.” As much as Madge annoys me with the whole “you are all going to hell” think, referring of course to her very spiritual life as a old Talmud studying Jewish Man. Yet, when I saw her say that on my current news source, E! Entertainment, I was feeling so/so about it.
I am with Papaya all day, aside from the 90 minutes in the morning when she is in childcare in the gym. As I write, she’s playing with Adventure Dad in the other room, yet I can hear it when she whines. I feel it in my bones. At five p.m. when the sky outside is dark (the sun sets EARLY in the winter here in Seattle) and I am so ready for him to be home. I need a break, some alone time to type or read or do something for me. Of course this is the time when Papaya gets clingy, it is the end of her day too and she wants to be close to the one she loves the most, me.
There has got to be a way to get through this; some days I sit on the living room floor with her and stack wooden blocks and some days I take her for a walk wrapped in one of my Didys. Now that it is dark, the walks are out, it’s COLD out there!
So I need to learn to be a better early evening parent, get my second wind. I think I’m going to make a soundtrack for play and start it at 5:15 p.m. every night when I feel exhausted. Okay, so any suggestions for fun songs?
