I felt like chicken little. Just as Papaya’s stomach virus faded away she developed white spots in her mouth and a rash all over her trunk. I was sure it was Hand, Foot and Mouth (http://www.askdrsears.com/html/8/t082600.asp) and that I had exposed the kids at daycare, BAD MOM moment! I took her to the Dr. this morning and it is Thrush (http://www.askdrsears.com/html/8/t082600.asp) which is a common end to a virus. I guess her immune system has been taxed while kicking this bug’s arse and so the natural yeast in her mouth is going overboard, causing the Thrush.
Luckily, the nipple shield I nurse with has protected me from any thrush on me AND she is responding to the Diflucan. Tomorrow I’m going to pick up some ACIDOPHILUS. This is a powder form of the normal, friendly bacteria that live in our intestines (called flora). Our intestinal flora helps regulate our digestion and stool patterns. Yeast also lives in our intestines. The yeast and the bacterial flora are constantly competing for space, and generally they keep each other in check. Sometimes, however, our bacterial flora can get depleted, such as when taking antibiotics or fighting her stomach bug. (some of that was from www.askdrsears.com)
So, she is happy once again and preparing for a fun weekend with Mom, and Dad….when he is home from work. He sure does work a lot these days.
