Winning the Lottery

First, I would have to play.

I can’t sleep, for many reasons, but as I lay here I thought of all the things I would do if I won the lottery. I would buy houses for so many friends & family. I would anonymously give other gifts to friends; Powerbook to one, New Car to another….The list goes on and I spent 2 hours lying here thinking all about it. I would tithe at least 10% to Churches I like, as well as charities…I even wondered which ones could “handle” the money without changing in a bad way as a meeting/church.

For me? I would buy Adventure Dad & I a house near DC, a getaway somewhere with snow and buy back my Grandparent’s Portlock house in Hawaii. I would fund Papaya’s college fund, probably outfit a rad playroom from Melissa & Doug, Rosie Hippo, etc. Yes, I used the word rad, sue me.

So, what are the top five things you would do for others if you won the lottery? And the top five for you?

Papaya reached out and touched Peter (my Dog) today! This is a breakthrough as she has, until now, been afraid of dogs.

I would pay my cousin Christopher’s way through college. (I have 25 first cousins. Christopher’s parents made him work through school but paid for his sister’s education and her wedding.) If he’s finished, I would give him the maximum amount that isn’t taxable, every year. And I’d swear him to secrecy. I’d do the same for my cousin Mike (whose parents are not evil trolls).

I’d buy my mother a house in Woodstock, which she misses, and my father an apartment in New York City, which he misses.

I would send my sister on a year-long tour of the world.

I would force all my friends to do the things they want to but can’t afford.

I would make huge donations to Powell House, the libraries in the towns I’ve lived in, and assorted charities.

For me, a home on each coast (NY and LA), a huge vacation, a vintage car and matching wardrobe, money put away for the baby’s future, and whatever Will wants.

This needs to be a big jackpot.
