Parallel Play

Parallel play

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Parallel play is a concept from developmental psychology. It means children playing side by side without interaction. It is commonly seen among children of ages 2 or 3. Children younger than that tend to play by themselves (solitary play). Older children interact with each other more (group play).

I like to think that Papaya at 16 months is advanced for participating in parallel play with the other kids this weekend.  Of course, this just fills up an ego that needs no filling.

It’s cute to watch…two kids “cooking” in the same play kitchen but never looking at one another.  They will walk away to feed their pretend food to their parents, but not usually to each other.

In other news, we cut Papaya’s bangs.  It was time, but we are still sad.

(I don’t know what’s been wrong with Blogger but I can’t tell you how many tries it’s taken me to leave my comment…but hey, I’m determined!!)

Anyway, that’s interesting about the different levels of playing. I would say I’ve never noticed it before…but I’ve never really been around too many kids to notice it.
