Yet again, I’ve got an eMail foreword that implies because I don’t support our government’s current foreign war/policy that I am somehow against the troops. I’ve also got the ones that imply being Liberal or having these convictions make me unpatriotic. It’s not true and it makes me angry.
Here is the post (with my commentary in bold):
It may take you two minutes to read this, but if you do not take the time to read this you are one of the people this post is talking about. Wow, you must be Psychic to be able to determine my moral position based on my online reading habits.
You stay up for 16 hours
He stays up for days on end.
_________________________
You take a warm shower to help you wake up.
He goes days or weeks without running water.
__________________________
You complain of a “headache”, and call in sick. No sick days as a SAHM.
He gets shot at as others are hit, and keeps moving forward.
__________________________
You put on your anti war/don’t support the troops shirt, and go meet up with your friends.
He still fights for your right to wear that shirt. Yes, and I’m going to that meet-up to take him out of a situation that I believe is wrong and a risk to his life that is NOT worth it, his life is worth more than oil.
__________________________
You make sure you’re cell phone is in your pocket.
He clutches the cross hanging on his chain next to his dog tags.
__________________________
You talk trash about your “buddies” that aren’t with you. huh?
He knows he may not see some of his buddies again. And America will be worse off without these men and women who have died fighting an unjust war, as will the Iraqi’s be worse off for the many they have lost.
__________________________
You walk down the beach, staring at all the pretty girls. How did you know?
He patrols the streets, searching for insurgents and terrorists. And in being there creates a more hostile environment, is risking his own life to protect those in a country where 80%+ of the population does not want his “help”.
_________________________
You complain about how hot it is.
He wears his heavy gear, not daring to take off his helmet to wipe his brow. I bet he complains about the heat too.
__________________________
You go out to lunch, and complain because the restaurant got your order wrong.
He doesn’t get to eat today. So we are not feeding our soldiers in Iraq? Investigate what Haliburton is doing with all that money then dammit.
__________________________
Your maid makes your bed and washes your clothes. Dude, she must have lost the key to my house.
He wears the same things for weeks, but makes sure his weapons are clean. I wear the same things a lot.
__________________________
You go to the mall and get your hair redone.
He doesn’t have time to brush his teeth today.
__________________________
You’re angry because your class ran 5 minutes over. Can’t say I relate to this one.
He’s told he will be held over an extra 2 months. For a surge that is too late, remember when the Generals were calling for more troops and were fired over it?
__________________________
You call your girlfriend and set a date for tonight.
He waits for the mail to see if there is a letter from home.
__________________________
You hug and kiss your girlfriend, like you do everyday.
He holds his letter close and smells his love’s perfume.
__________________________
You roll your eyes as a baby cries. Do not.
He gets a letter with pictures of his new child, and wonders if they’ll ever meet.
__________________________
You criticize your government, and say that war never solves anything. It does not, just like hitting a child never teaches them not to hit.
He sees the innocent tortured and killed by their own people and remembers why he is fighting. He’s fighting for oil, not the people who are oppressed not only by the civil war we created with the power vacuum. Not because he wants to, but because he’s a good soldier who follows orders that come down from the Greedier in Chief.
__________________________
You hear the jokes about the war, and make fun of men like him. Really? I make fun of GIs? Who even does that? No one I’ve ever known….even the biggest Liberals.
He hears the gunfire, bombs and screams of the wounded.
__________________________
You see only what the media wants you to see. What do they want us to see? I read multiple multinational News Sources and make my own determinations - I’m no slave to Bush, I mean Fox, News.
He sees the broken bodies lying around him.
__________________________
You are asked to go to the store by your parents. You don’t. Once again, I’m not a kid.
He does exactly what he is told. And may die in an unnecessary war because of his honor.
__________________________
You stay at home and watch TV. Does Noggin Count?
He takes whatever time he is given to call, write home, sleep, and eat.
__________________________
You crawl into your soft bed, with down pillows, and get comfortable. I like firm pillows.
He tries to sleep but gets woken by mortars and helicopters all night long. I bet he’s like Adventure Dad is underway - can sleep through anything from pure exhaustion.
__________________________
You sit there and judge him, saying the world is probably a worse place because of men like him. Nope, because of men like his Commander in Chief.
If only there were more men like him Bush would be sending them off to Iran too, and maybe a few in N. Korea but definitely none in Darfur where there is a Genocide - that’s much less important than oil and old scores to settle with a man who is already dead.

If you support your troops, repost this with a “HOORAH!”
If you don’t support your troops well, then don’t repost, it’s not like you know the men and women that are dying to preserve your right… Actually, I do know them and support them - NOT THE WAR but certainly the men and women who are fighting it. They are more reason than any to get out there and do something, our nation’s young people killed in an unjust war - a generation of children who will grow up without fathers and some without mothers. Come ON.

Methinks the author is confusing this with Vietnam. No longer are the protesters spitting on soldiers! What a bunch of junk.
Kulia,
This was posted by me and I am sorry you took offense to it. To me it was supporting our troops, not downing you! You can hate the war, there will always be people that hate what ever war we are in. But seriously you need to get over it! Next time we are bombed maybe we should just sit here and wait for it to happen again. What about all those little children who lost their parents in the towers or on the planes!
Candi - I know it was not your intention to bother me, but to express your support for our troops. I do the same thing in my own way - the variety of opinions and people make this world go around!
“You criticize your government, and say that war never solves anything.” Criticizing government is a democratic imperative. (That has nothing to do with political parties!) A democratic government is FOR THE PEOPLE and BY THE PEOPLE. In order for government to perform to our standards and to improve, we have to criticize and make suggestions for improvement. But we do all this while believing ours is the best government we can make it. Why else would anyone fight for the right to maintain our way of life?!
But we also have to recognize that the rest of the world may not covet our way of life. It just may not work for them. I believe Americans need to allow others to be different. If others did not feel physically threatened by the U.S. then there would be no need to physically attack the U.S. We can all survive a war of words. Differing religions can co-exist. We should not pre-emptively kill people because we fear they may want to kill us, or are even being told to kill us. We need to show them that we are not going to kill them and that there are advantages to peaceful co-existence.
Yea, it sounds utopian and unrealistic. But I believe it’s possible. Maybe not this year, but we need to work toward peaceful solutions.

Um, Iraq had NOTHING to do with 9/11 - even the Republican Commission report said so.
