I am bombastic in my blogging - I often write as if I were shooting from the hip without thought for possible hurt feelings. Proclaiming my confidence in ideas to the world can come off as brash, bitchy, and all sorts of other things. I’m not sure if I mean it to or not. I certainly don’t like the feeling of having family members upset at me (Caleb, Candi, possibly others) and at the same time I do hold certain beliefs of mine to be true for me and don’t plan to change them.
So, please read this blog with the confidence that I care about you personally (those of you I know, I doubt I have readers I do not know, but heck, maybe) and although we may disagree it will rarely limit my respect for you as a person with your own valuable opinions. Don’t hate me, please, because I don’t hate you.
In other news this has made me realize I’ll never support myself financially via a blog - I’m just not that kind of blogger. For example Heather makes her living (and pays a mortgage) via her blog, but we are different. She keeps with enough of a theme - her family, her dog, the internet, Mormon humor, etc. - that her blog is like an ongoing novel, entertainment that people enjoy. Going from Papaya’s birthday to my thoughts on the Death Penalty, just not going to win me a legion of readers who won’t know when clicking on my blog if they are going to be amused or offended. I just don’t think risk like that sells.

How do you make a living via a blog? I’d love to retire from this 9-5….
I *think* it’s from Ads, writing gigs about blogging and going on CNN to talk about being a blogger? But honestly, I’m just not sure.
I actually love blogs that mix it up, and keep me thinking. I think the posts that you referenced in this one were both great posts, that expressed your opinion in a rational and meaningful way.
Even if people don’t always agree with you, starting a dialogue and opening up people’s mind to views that may differ from their own is always a good thing in my mind.
Hey - it’s your blog, yo! If other people come read it, they can choose to comment or not… but why get offended? It’s like reading someone’s diary and saying, “I can’t believe you didn’t like my Yams at Christmas dinner! How could you write that?”
Also, I don’t think of you as bombastic at all.
Oh, and I totally don’t get the “Dooce” thing at all. Though, I’m jealous of her Canon 5D. Bitch.
Someone that actually KNOWS you, would know that these are your views and would not take offense. They should already know that you are an assertive person w/ very strong opinions (one of the reasons I love you so). I love reading your blog, even if I don’t always agree w/ you!
