I thought this was why

most of us voted to put Democrats back in power in congress!?!?!

Needless to say, I’ve written a letter.

On Friday the House voted to condemn the president’s plan to escalate the war. A good first step. But we have to keep moving. On Thursday–when Congress is home for recess–MoveOn members are planning to show up at hundreds of Congressional offices to deliver letters asking our representatives to stop the escalation.

The more of us who add our voices, the more pressure they’ll feel to act. Can you take a moment to write a short letter that other MoveOn members will hand-deliver for you on Thursday?/

Baking

Oh, how I love to bake. This is part of why I’m hosting the Bakin’ it HOT to elect Barack meeting on Tuesday. Oh yes, the one where our local WUSA Chanel 9 is coming to profile the ladies in charge of Families for Obama group. Oh yeah, that one.

So I made sugar cookie dough (with Lilikoi Juice) and froze it earlier in the week and today I started on two of my other three offerings:

BaRACKing Brownie Cups:
Scoop those brownies
Oh yeah - I’m happy to be elbow deep in chocolate no matter how “lowfat” I made the recipe - you’ll never know. Note my Pampered Chef scooper - I have them in every size and love those things. Oh - and if you want one of these XL Junior Ringer tshirts where the profits go to Obama? Linkie to Tshirts

Barack Brownie Cups
See how even and nice it makes the scoops? In my silicone cupcake paper replacement? Oh yeah, I love kitchen stuff.

Bakin' it HOT
Oh yeah - this is the only one where you can tell I have any hair so I had to post this photo.

Then it was on to National Security Nanaimo Bars which I learned to make while Adventure Dad was stationed in Monterey, CA at Naval Postgraduate School. I blame them for a lot of my weight gain.

Ingredients
Oh yeah - I don’t skimp. Schrafen Berger for my peeps.

Mixing it up
Wow. Pampered Chef Spatula and bowl - I’m addicted. Oh how this smelled AWESOME.

Kitchen Helper
I flattened it into the pan and am letting it cool before I add the sweet frosting layer then the layer of ganache. Oh yeah baby.

I know, you wish you could come. But if you want to throw your own party we’ve made it easy with PDF Instructions free for download.

Fundraising Primary

Friends and Family,

This is an blog post written entirely by me about something I care about. I do not intend to flood your eMail boxes weekly as I go on this exciting journey because I know and appreciate that some have different views, different amounts of time to dedicate to Politics, and so on. But I ask that you read this eMail and think about what is going on.

I am very excited that a candidate that I believe in is running for President - I feel that this is the first chance my generation has had to come together and be part of sweeping political change on a grand scale (yes, the Senate takeover was big but not grand in my opinion). A moderate candidate that I agree with, that inspires me to take action on a grassroots level is something I’d been praying in hope of for a long time.

I could fill this eMail on Sen. Obama’s stance on the issues - but really, you have the right to see them for yourself. I am a huge fan of his public choice to publish where he stands even when his oponents are not yet ready to take one. His own website lists where he stands (http://www.barackobama.com/issues/ click on the headers to get longer descriptions averaging one page) and you can also see where he stands vs. Hillary ( http://www.whereistand.com/Stands/BarackObama/Detail/Compare?list=HillaryClinton ).

With my friend Ruthi, we’ve started a Nationwide Group called Families for Obama (www.familiesforobama.org) and we are organizing across the country - family inclusive events that spread knowledge about the candidate (his stance, etc.) as well as fundraising.

Here is the thing - we have a little over a month until the “Fundraising Primary” - before Iowa. It is our chance to help our candidate step out ahead, or be left in the dust. After March 31st the media will cover the candidates that raised the most money as the frontrunners, this is where we are in our out. If you donate $10 to his campaign it will mean more than $30 in January of next year, see what I mean? So I’ve created a fundraising page at ( http://my.barackobama.com/page/outreach/view/main/Papaya MomPetz ) and hope to raise a HUGE amount ($1000 for each state - that is $50,000 raised by a stay at home Mom!) So I’m asking you to take some time in the next week to look at where he stands on the issues, and make your starting choice to support his campaign (if you agree with him, of course) early on.

Thank you for your time in reading this eMail - if we agree or disagree, I respect you and am proud to call you someone I care about!

Aloha,
Papaya Mom

ps. If you would like more updates on what I’m doing - join at http://my.barackobama.com/ then add me as a friend, and join the Families for Obama group!

Me: “Do you know what today is?”

Adventure Dad: “The day before Valentines Day?”

Me: “And…?”

Adventure Dad: “Your Dad’s birthday?”

Me: “No, the 17th anniversary of his death. His birthday was December 31.”

Adventure Dad: “Your family has a lot of stuff this time of year.”

Me: “We’ll make sure to look out for that next time someone might croak.”

Adventure Dad: “A little consideration goes a long way.”

Six Weird Things About Me

1. I am of the opinion that a shower can cure anything, therefore I often end up getting sick while trying to shower away food poisining hot sweats. Yes, I obsessivly clean/wash the shower if I’ve been sick in there before anyone else in my home touches it - I’m silly, not gross.

2. I deeply want a tattoo, but because of my melanoma history I won’t ever get one.

3. I am both social and uncomfortable in crowds.

4. I detest mouth sounds - the squishy weird noise your mouth makes when you are talking but have dry/sticky mouth. When I hear it on the radio I have to hold back from calling in to tell the anchor to “DRINK WATER damnit.”

5. I wear shades on my head at night.

6. I have long toes.

Snow

The snow is coming! The snow is coming!

In the Metro DC area (Northern Virginia) where I live you would think “Snow” was another name for “a big scary monster!” The schools always go two hours late if there is a hint of ice or snow which with a two year old should not bother me BUT it means they are all in the nice daycare at my gym so Papaya is overrun by 13 year olds.

Now they are predicting two, count ‘em two, days of snow and “wintery weather” for the area.

You would have thought we were preparing for a hurricane the way Whole Foods looked this afternoon. If only Mondays were not my regular grocery day - I totally would have driven on.

Now, let us see if there IS any snow tonight. No matter what we get it won’t measure up to my In Law’s 8+ Feet in Lewis County, NY.

Fundraising

I’ve made a big exciting commitment (no, I won’t be sued for not making it) to fundraise for Obama ‘08. I’m choosing to try and raise $50,000 for the campaign - a HUGE ammount for sure. Why that ammount? $1000 for every state silly.

If you want to donate for no reason other than support and to make me smile; clicke Here.

Also - help me brainstorm! What will I be doing over the next 300 or so days before the primaries?

Bake Sale
Children’s Read-a-Thon (where they get sponsers to donate for each book read over a period of time)
Graphic Design - I design you a card and either print it at cost for a donation TO the fundraising page, or give the .jpg file in exchange for the donation
Frozen Meals - Like I made for my friend Julie when she had the baby - sell them and put the profits towards donations.

Any other great ideas out there?

"Lets get to work!"

All future Obama posts will be posted at our Families for Obama group on www.barakobama.com, but right now (shocking) the site is slow to load and I have to share.

There they were, the people of Illinois who I have envied for so long (Obama already legally represents them!), in the cold waiting for the announcement. We are all waiting, the excitement growing, knowing what is to come this morning that will be remembered in the history books.

Dick Durban (D-IL) stood there in Springfield and spoke of President Lincoln and how he started there to “heal a divided nation” and about how we are now “hungering for a new generation of leadership.” Right on! Now send in the big gun, it’s nice to hear from you and all but I want to hear OBAMA!

Then he walked up, casual and happy with his family - taking the time to hold his daughter’s hand. I see floating along the bottom of the CNN screen that “Clinton is the early frontrunner for ‘08” and think to myself…not for long!

What. a. speaker. This man was made for this - he’s going to dominate in debates and charm each and every person he meets on this journey. He speaks to our hearts, inspires us and well, I’m proud (how quickly we take emotional ownership of our leaders).

The crowd held signs saying “Barak the Vote” and “Obama ‘08” and chanted O-BA-MA-O-BA-MA long and loud and strong! Our future President (I think I’m going to call him that from now on, OFP) inspired me by giving eloquent words to things I’ve been thinking for so long;

we CAN “Disagree without being disagreeable”
we CAN affect a “system that CAN be changed”
it IS “time for our generation to answer that call”
we ARE “One People - as Americans” and not only a political party or color
I DO believe with OFP “in what this country can be”
I DO believe in “diplomacy, strategy, foresight”
I HAVE “looked away in disillusionment” but not any more, oh no!

Then, after saying the magic words we all wanted to hear he went on to the meat of the issue - his vision, our vision, for America.

Lobby Reform - YES!
Share in Prosperity - YES! I want to “be the generation that ends poverty in America,” I mean - who would not want to be part of that?!!?
Setting Priorities and making Hard Choices - of course, that is what a REAL candidate does without fear for political points but rather with motivation for the future of our country.
He wants to be the “Vehicle of your hopes, your dreams” - and that what this is to me right now, he IS the vehicle of MY hopes and dreams for America and I’m fired up (oh dear, should I avoid that term for fear it will be overused by media?) for the first time in my life to become part of this process.
Military (as a Military wife I have a lot of emotional capital built up here) - a “stronger military” mentioned be a Democrat (I could not be more excited to see “my” party embracing what I know is a good idea). A homecoming that will honor, care for and rebuild our military. A end to the war in Iraq (it IS possible - he’s right, we have to tell the Iraqis we won’t be there forever or there is no reason for the Sunnis and Shiites to work together), this “tragic mistake.” March ’08 - I can see that, I can look forward to that - It can be real!

I am all about “reclaiming the meaning of citizenship” through this group - it is time for us to gather and “transform a Nation” with OFP. My first plan of action is to start a book club (I know, not exciting but meaningful, I promise) to reRead THE AUDACITY OF HOPE together. How about you start one in your town too?
