Remembering

Me: “Do you know what today is?”

Adventure Dad: “The day before Valentines Day?”

Me: “And…?”

Adventure Dad: “Your Dad’s birthday?”

Me: “No, the 17th anniversary of his death. His birthday was December 31.”

Adventure Dad: “Your family has a lot of stuff this time of year.”

Me: “We’ll make sure to look out for that next time someone might croak.”

Adventure Dad: “A little consideration goes a long way.”

Come ON. Poor Travis … he wasn’t there 17 years ago! (And, by the way, his birthday was December 30th.) Jack has moved on and so should we. But, boy oh boy, has he missed some exciting times! Your Dad was a good one. He helped make us strong and empathetic. He brought with him a wonderfully diverse family, each with a unique “voice.”
And he’d be proud that you’re using your political voice to get out there and work for what you believe. He attended sit-ins and was part of closing the DU campus during protests against the Vietnam War. Much later in life he worked on political campaigns and at our constitutional convention. We all need to keep our country on a good path. There’s room for diversity in our union.
You make me proud. With love, Tutu
