It has fenders (keeps the water and dirt off of you) and is a single speed. Someone once told me that a single speed is better than a three speed - not sure why. But I'm not sure there's enough difference between the speeds to pay the extra bucks. If you're talking about riding around home, it's mostly flat. On my bike there are only two speeds I use -- riding with the wind or against the wind. The kid seat comes with its own attachment to the bike and hopefully won't get in the way of the back fender. I like the women's bike without a bar from from frame to seat. You would probably fit on Bruce's bike since you and he are of similar heights. But his bike has the bar.
