I went today to the Marai where the first Tahitian left to voyage and find Hawaii thousands of years ago. Upon arriving on Oahu he sent his son back and the family returned and populated Hawaii. It’s amazing what they did and in 1976 after almost 600 years the Polynesian Voyaging Society sent back the Hokuleia to that very same Marai. The thousands of Tahitians from all over Polynesia greeted them chanting “what took you so long?” The place had great mana (power) and I was truly touched by all that it means for the history of Hawaii and the people of Raiatea.
