The age of tantrums has begun.

It seems we’ve moved into the phase of tantrums, so closely following the phase of poopy panties (one of my  least favorite and honestly not totally over yet) I’d hoped for a short respite at least.  Alas, it was not the way of the parenting world for me to get that kind of break.

We now meet horrid transitions of pain (like waking up from a nap, coming home from school or having to DO anything we do not want to) with the appropriate level of screaming and crying (I don’t think there exists a low level - the only humanly appropriate levels seem to be 10.0 and upward).  No bribery works, no reasoning and often waiting out is a lesson in futility (although it sure seems to clear a room of all with the mind or body ability to do so).  We had  thirty minute tantrum of tears over me not allowing her (through my idiotic lack of knowledge on the subject) to carry the bird-feeder with me to the seed, then having the audacity to pour the seed in myself when she was (rightly so after such a wild offense to the senses) crying her head off over carrying an empty bird feeder.  It followed into refusing any and all snacks other than the blessed cheetoes (I rue the day she was first exposed to those evil things as a special birthday treat for some preschool classmate on his birthday) of which I had the clearly evil nature to refuse her since we had none (poor excuse).  Once dry sourdough toast was decided on she ate half a slice and slipped back into her sweet child persona waiting for the next offense at which to let out her alternate personality out of the bag.  I should name that other girl, because it sure ‘aint my Papaya.  Maybe Carrie like the movie?  I can see it now;

“How is my Papaya doing?”

“I don’t know honey, but Carrie’s been around a lot lately and I’m ready to have Papaya back from her vacation!”

As part of moving comes buying and purging - getting rid of things via Craigslist and the like, and also buying things for the next house.

    God help us all. What IS it with this age? At least I know I’m not alone.

    I feel your pain…my TWIN toddlers are turning three this week. We survived the terrible two’s somehow. “I DO IT!” is one of my boy’s favorite phrases. It does get better :)

    Just muddle through, hon. Sophie is finally coming out of her terrible tantrums. It’s really hard, not to mention frustrating and sometimes a little embarassing, but you’re a GREAT mom, and you’ll find a way to get through. *hugs*

    Oh boy! Something to look forward to :) This is where that patience thing must come in handy.

    Yesterday, 2/28, was an interesting day to watch the Papaya in her glory. She had playmates over … a lot of yelling, a lot of tears, a LOT of “stop your body!” shouts from PapayaMom. It was really hard to observe/listen and not want to send everyone to their own corner. So when it came to going out to dinner, I was not hopeful. In fact, grandparents took a separate car to get away from the shrieky child. But dinner was absolutely fabulous! After one-on-one time with PapayaMom, Papaya was in her best form. Of course, she was bribed to the hilt — new mermaid sisters, new purse, new shoes. But her demeanor was excellent and she self-entertained all through dinner with five adults. Quite amazing! Cheers to PapayaMom!!!
