Like Maggie Gyllenhaal who nurses her 8 month old daughter in public and KNOWS it’s not a big deal - I mean AAP says a MINIMUM of a year so why is 8 months SO shocking?

Like Joley Fisher who had a homebirth and did not hide it like some pariah - her body did what it’s meant to do in a place where fewer interventions lowered her risk of complications.

To Gwen Steffani who babywears as does her husband, although I’m dying to spread the shoulder part of it for her and show her how much more comfortable that ring sling can be.

To celebrities who don’t hide it when they cosleep like other parents around the world - it is NOT dangerous unless you are on drugs or severely overweight so why do people act like it’s shocking?

As she eats breakfast…

I read my friend’s blogs….two of whom are going to pop any minute now with babies! One is a boy, and one is a frog (nic name). I’m very excited to see the pictures and each morning I look, excited, and when there is no post…I wonder. This reminds me of a dear friend Amy who I spoke to last week when she was 40 weeks 4 days pregnant with #2, she never called me back the next day and it’s been a week….I sent flowers! Of course, she had the beab! Also, I get to call and talk to my friend Monica who has a newish baby who she had at home a month or two ago….so much fun.

Anyway, reading all my blogs and Mommy boards this morning, my face hurts from smiling so much.

I’m off to have breakfast with Julie and Makenzie and Papaya…what fun!

A New Year!

We had a great New Year eating Cajun food at Mor Mor Bistro with
friends:) The music was a bit loud and Adventure Dad felt like he was out of
place without his AARP card but we had a nice time nonetheless.

Today is a beautiful, cold, sunny day in the Northwest and we
celebrated by cleaning the house. We took down the ornaments and
trees, then Adventure Dad began to nest - he even vacuumed the couches
themselves!

Now we are off for a drive in the beautiful weather and possibly to
pick up an Elliptical Machine we are minutes from winning on eCrack,
oh, I mean eBay. This will be great for post-baby workouts and for
Adventure Dad to find workout time now that off-crew is going into full swing
(leave the house at 6 a.m. and return around 8 p.m.).

We tried to watch Mona Lisa Smile last night but at about scene 18 the
disk began to skip and we could not finish. We reported the problem
and sent it back to Netflix, but it is so frustrating to wait so long
to see the end. Adventure Dad feels that since the movie is enjoyable but
predictable this far it is no big deal.

No Papaya yet, it seems she is fit to stay comfortable inside. I, on the
other hand, dream of sleeping comfortable again. I know I won’t get
much sleep with a new baby, but to wake up to something other than sore
hips and heartburn would be a blessing! Remind me of this when I
complain of no sleep…

Thursdays are for…..shopping & cleaning?

It is almost the New Year and I’ve managed to almost completely waste another day of 2004!

Another night of bad pregnancy sleep that lapsed in one hour intervals from midnight to ten a.m. yet still left me feeling like I’d been up all night. Luckily I got a one hour nap in this afternoon which has refreshed me.

Yesterday Adventure Dad and I went to my last biweekly OBGYN appointment, from now on I go every week! The Dr. cecked around down there and said that Papaya is head down, as high up as she can get and I’m 1.5 cm dilated. We’ve certainly got at least another week and my new guess is January 25th which is BOTH the length of the average first pregnancy and a full moon!

Then, I made myself useful in the cleaning of this home - an area where I have been quite useless lately. What did I do, you ask? I went on Amazon and used the gift certificates from my Tutu to Adventure Dad and I for Christmas and bought a new vacuum since the one we currently have no longer sucks and has a strange burning smell when you run it. The old vacuum was our first married purchase, Adventure Dad hated to spend money on something so practical, so I’ll be sad to see it go for the nostalgia of it all. Then again it would be nice to have a vacuum that does more than leave lines in the carpet without cleaning.

On Amazon I also picked up a few books…one of which (Breast-feeding for Dummies) was recommended by my sister-in-law who how has two kids and one of them is up to 12 pounds at one month old. This of course makes her my expert:) She had a good point about a lot of the breast-feeding books out there - they seem to want to preach at you with the implication that if you don’t breastfeed you are evil. My question is, if we are already reading this book, are we really in need of such a lecture? It would seem we are already motivated to give it a good ‘ol college try.

Welcome to my blog….

I realized that although I love Papaya’s site, the news function would work better for me as a blog. Therefore…I will just link this blog. I know your impressed.

So, it’s been a while since I’ve updated everyone on how I’m doing. Big news - I’m pregnant. Big laugh from the peanut gallery who knew this when I was moments past conception and have enjoyed the weekly updates on everything from Papaya’s movements on.

My happiest thing these days is that Christmas has passed and, therefore, Papaya’s birthday will be after Christmas. The farther she goes into January the better for future birthday parties when all of her friends are away visiting family over Christmas break. Also, we will all save a lot of money buying her gifts at the after Christmas sales rather than competeing with Christmas shoppers.

In non-baby news - I’ve had Adventure Dad home! He had Thursday through Sunday off and actually stayed home. I’m going to pretend that the building was not locked and he did it out of love for me. What he did do out of love was a lot - he filled up the hot tub, rubbed my back and was very patient with all of my slow moving creaking heavy pregnancy waddles from here to there. He is now very excited about becoming a father and can’t wait. I, on the other hand, am really enjoying the last few weeks of this pregnancy thing.

Okay, so much for that not having any baby news. But, come on, at this point everything we do seems to relate in some way to this large child I’m carrying out front of me. I wonder if that will change or increase with her arrival?

Also, we talked to Bill yesterday (our old roomate from Hawaii). He seems to be doing great and this summer will be leaving the USS Topeka, where he is NAV, and going to the Air Force War College in Alabama. Alabama? I guess when you are the Air Force you can put your base anywhwere. Thank goodness the Navy has some prime real estate that we’ve been lucky enough to live in. He’ll be in Alabama for a year on his JPME Phase I (which Adventure Dad did in Monterey) and then off to Omaha for a two year shore tour after that at STRATCOM. In Alabama he’ll be at least in the same state as Rob & Nancy Brooks (Jack and the dogs too) where Rob is starting his own First Command Office. In Omaha, um…..I don’t know anything good about Omaha. People seem to like it there, but it seems awful far from a lot of places.

Thats all for now….
